In recent months, Rory McIlroy has said Greg Norman “needs to go” and that he relishes being a “pain” to LIV Golf’s front man.
On Wednesday, McIlroy weighed in on the shakeup at LIV Golf after reports that Majed Al-Sorour would no longer be managing director of LIV Golf, which has also lost both its chief operating officer and director of franchises over the last few weeks.
Ahead of the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic, McIlroy was asked about the moves, which appear to elevate Norman’s position at LIV Golf.
“I mean, if the chief executive doesn’t have an executive team, I don’t know how strong that is,” McIlroy told reporters. “I mean, he can’t do it himself.”
McIlroy, vocal in his defense of the PGA Tour and opposition to LIV Golf, was also asked if he was able to win PGA Tour’s Tour Championship and rise to world No. 1 “in spite of or because of what was going on?”
“I would say a little bit of both,” he said. “So there’s no point in just being a mouthpiece when you can’t back that up by playing good golf and showing people the rewards people can have out here if they are playing well.”
